On a Magnifica Evo with an automatic milk carafe, unlit milk-drink choices can be a detection issue rather than a frothing blockage. Check the milk level and normal carafe seating before cleaning unrelated parts or buying a replacement.

First confirm which Evo you have

This check is for a machine fitted with the automatic carafe, not a version with a manual steam wand. Photograph the inactive icons before changing anything. A drink that can be selected but produces poor foam is a different problem; use the milk-not-frothing guide for that case.

Milk is below the carafe minimum

Bring the level within the manufacturer's marked limits. Avoid exceeding the maximum. Check whether the drink choices become available before changing another variable.

The machine does not acknowledge the carafe

De'Longhi describes a sound and the milk-container cleaning indicator as signs of correct insertion. Refit the carafe in the normal documented direction; do not force it or defeat the detection mechanism.

Seating and level look correct

De'Longhi notes that unusually clear milk alternatives may not be recognized by the optical sensor. Compare an appropriate alternative recommended by the manufacturer, respecting your dietary requirements. This observation is not proof that the sensor is broken.

Stop before altering the connector

With operation stopped, look for obvious damage around the external carafe connector. The manufacturer's FAQ directs owners to support when the detection pin is not in good condition. Do not bend it, bridge it, hold it down with an object or remove the housing.

Record the full model code, which lights remain available, whether the insertion signal occurs, and what changed after the level or seating check. Change only one condition at a time so the result is useful to support. There is no need to repeatedly run cleaning cycles when the machine does not recognize the carafe.
