First distinguish liquid that escaped a full or misplaced drip tray from liquid emerging through the housing. The final puddle can look the same. If water is coming through the base, stop using the machine and request service instead of repeating a brew to investigate.

The tray was full or recently reinstalled

With the machine off and cool, inspect tray placement and surrounding spills. Do not assume this explains a recurring underside leak.

A detached reservoir visibly loses water

Photograph the tank and seal without pressing the valve with tools. Confirm a replacement against the exact model.

Water appears under the machine at startup

Record whether a tray overflow was observed or only a puddle afterward. Do not repeat startup when an internal leak is suspected.

Water emerges from the case, cord area or base seam

Stop use and contact service. Do not remove covers, run the machine tilted or leave it on a towel.

Safe checks, in order

  1. Switch off; unplug only from a dry, safe area. Let the machine cool completely.
  2. Empty and inspect the removable tray and reservoir according to the model manual. Keep the housing upright.
  3. Identify whether the previous spill began at an external container or an actual housing seam. Use existing observations rather than recreating a dangerous fault.
  4. Give support the full BES code, timing and liquid location. A tray correction should not be treated as a repair if unexplained leakage returns.

About Barista Touch startup leaks

A search for a Touch leak at startup deserves the exact Touch model, not a generic drain-valve diagnosis. This guide does not claim that every startup puddle is normal drainage. If the tray is seated and not full yet liquid escapes the housing, stop and use the relevant Breville support route.

Why location is more useful than volume

A small internal leak can still be unsafe, while a large external spill can come from removing a full tray. Measuring the puddle does not settle electrical safety. Describe where it first appeared and what operation had just finished.

Stop and obtain help when

Any suspected internal leak, wet electrical connection, repeated outlet trip, damaged tank or unexplained recurrence requires service. Do not assume a dry exterior means the inside is safe.

Should I replace a gasket immediately?

Not without locating the fault and matching the part. Several unrelated conditions can produce a puddle.

Can I descale to fix an internal leak?

No. Do not use a maintenance chemical as an experiment on a leaking electrical appliance.
