The first useful split is whether the hot-water function works. If both hot water and coffee fail, investigate supply and filter preparation. If hot water works but the coffee outlet does not, focus on the supported brew-group, coffee-feed and outlet checks rather than immediately blaming the pump.
Which observation matches?
Choose the closest observation. The complete decision list remains below.
Neither hot water nor coffee flows
Check tank seating and whether the issue started after an AquaClean change. Follow the specific no-water-after-filter guide.
Hot water flows, coffee does not
Review brew-group cleanliness, coffee delivery and outlet obstruction using Philips' owner-maintenance instructions.
Pre-ground mode discards dry coffee
Confirm the selected mode and supplied-scoop quantity instead of repeatedly adding more powder.
A number or warning symbol appears
Record the exact display and model. Resolve the indicated state before another brew attempt.
Safe checks, in order
- Note whether the failure affects every drink or one mode, and whether it started after filter replacement, cleaning or a grind change.
- Confirm a filled and seated tank. Use a normal hot-water command only if the machine is safe and actually able to move water.
- If water works, allow normal shutdown to finish before removing a user-removable brew group. Clean and reinstall exactly as Philips specifies.
- If the supported checks do not restore coffee, report which mode worked and which failed. Do not force a brew group into place or keep the pump running dry.

Do not turn an observation into a part diagnosis
A successful hot-water dispense shows that some water delivery works. It does not prove the coffee path is clear or identify which valve is faulty. This guide narrows the service question without opening the appliance.
Check the changed variable
A failure immediately after replacing a filter suggests a different first check from a failure immediately after loading excessive pre-ground coffee. Return one supported variable to its correct state, then record the result. A sequence of random resets erases useful context.

Open model-specific referencesStop and obtain help when
Stop if there is no flow with abnormal pump noise, a jammed brew group, leakage, recurrent warnings or an electrical smell. Do not force mechanisms or reach into the machine while powered.
Questions this diagnosis does not skip
Can I remove the brew group with power disconnected abruptly?
Use the model's normal shutdown first so it can reach its parked position; then follow the owner instructions.
Does error 05 always mean a failed pump?
No. Philips includes trapped air among the relevant causes. Confirm that you actually have a numerical code and the matching model.
