Water collected inside the drip tray is different from water underneath the appliance. Start with the machine off and cool. If the electrical base, plug or outlet may be wet, stop using it; do not run another cycle just to locate the leak.

Match the model and the location

This page is for the standard Barista Touch family. Confirm the code on the label; do not assume the Touch Impress has the same parts. Describe the first place you noticed water rather than calling every puddle an internal pump leak.

Water is only inside the removable tray

Breville provides a dedicated tray-cleaning tutorial and an Empty Me indicator. Let the machine cool, empty and clean the removable tray as instructed, and seat it normally. Water in this collection area alone does not identify a broken internal component.

Water is outside the tray or under the case

Do not keep brewing to reproduce this. Disconnect power only from a dry, safe point. If that is not possible, leave the appliance alone and obtain help. Dry, unpowered visual observations are enough for the support report.

Water appeared when the tank was refilled

Record whether it was spilled during handling or continued afterward. Inspect only the user-removable tank and tray for visible damage after the machine is safe and cool. Do not push tools into valves or tip the appliance to inspect its underside.

Give support the information that separates these cases

Note whether the water was inside the tray, beside the tank, around the portafilter or beneath the housing. Add the operating mode and whether the machine was switched off when the water first appeared. A photo of the existing puddle and model label, with the serial number hidden, is more useful than repeating a potentially unsafe test.

Persistent leakage outside the collection tray, visible cracks, electrical odor or a tripped outlet ends owner troubleshooting. Do not descale a leaking machine as an experiment or remove its case. Ask Breville to identify the correct service route.
